The Ministry of Defence has announced a series of high-level promotions, postings, and appointments within the Kenya Defence Forces, marking a significant restructuring of military leadership.
The changes, approved by President William Ruto in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, were communicated through official statements released from Ulinzi House, Nairobi, on Friday.

In the Kenya Army, Major General John Maiso Nkoimo has been appointed Deputy Commander, succeeding Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan who retired. Brigadier (Dr) Francis Njoroge Kuria has been promoted to Major General and named Director of Medical Services, while Colonel Mark Joseph Awala has risen to Brigadier and will serve as Chief of Operations at Army Headquarters.
Colonel Makonani Balata has also been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of Langata Garrison, and Colonel Asma Diramo Kofa has been elevated to Brigadier, taking up the role of Chief of Provost at the Directorate of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability.
The Kenya Air Force has seen notable changes as well, with Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah promoted to Deputy Commander.
Colonel Peter Karigih Kariuki has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed College Secretary at the National Defence College, while Colonel Benedetta Margaret Kikechi has been elevated to Brigadier and will serve as Chief of Research and Development at the Defence National Security Industries.
Lieutenant Colonel Bernadette Awar Eyanae has been promoted to Colonel and appointed Colonel Plans and Programs at the International Peace Support Training Centre.
Other key appointments include Major General William Kamoiro as General Officer Commanding Central Command, Major General Peter Kipketer Limo as Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, and Major General Edward Rugendo as Managing Director of Defence Forces Welfare Services.
Additionally, the tenure of Major General Paul Owuor Otieno, Commander of the Kenya Navy, has been extended by one year.
The Ministry emphasized that these promotions and appointments reflect the Defence Council’s commitment to strengthening leadership and enhancing operational effectiveness across the services.
