The Kenya Commercial Bank Rugby Football Club (KCB RFC) delivered a masterclass in power and precision to claim the Driftwood Sevens crown.
As a result, they edged out a resilient Strathmore Leos side 15-14 in a pulsating final at the Mombasa Sports Club.

The bankers stamped their authority early, racing to a 15-0 lead in the first half.
Elvis Olukusi crossed the line twice, while tournament standout Floyd Wabwire added a well-executed try to cap off a dominant opening spell.
Their high-tempo play and clinical finishing left the university side trailing at the break.
But the Leos roared back in the second half. Barnabas Owuor sparked the comeback with a brilliant solo effort, followed by a penalty try that brought them within a single point.
Despite relentless late pressure, KCB held firm to secure the narrow victory and lift the trophy in the opening leg of the National Sevens Circuit.
“I’m very happy with today’s win,” said KCB head coach Andrew Amonde.
“The boys have been rewarded for their hard work after intense weeks of training. Our focus now shifts to the upcoming legs of the tournament, where we intend to stamp our authority.”
Winger Floyd Wabwire was named Player of the Final for his electrifying performance.
More accolades
He also bagged two individual accolades; Top Try Scorer with eight tries and Top Point Scorer, cementing his reputation as one of the tournament’s brightest stars.
KCB’s path to the final was marked by dominant displays.
They swept aside Menengai Oilers 29-0 in the quarterfinals and edged Kabras Sugar 10-5 in a tense semifinal clash.
New recruit George Ooro, who recently joined KCB from Strathmore Leos, made an early impact by scoring his first try for the bankers during the tournament.
“It’s bittersweet for me,” Ooro reflected.
“I’m sad I couldn’t play in the final against my former club due to a minor injury, but I’m thrilled to have scored my first try in KCB colours. I’m looking forward to achieving more and winning titles with this great team.”
The National Sevens Circuit now heads to Nakuru for the Prinsloo Sevens, the second leg of the series, set for August 2–3 at the Nakuru Athletics Club.
