People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has commended Kenya’s Gen Z for their resilience in fighting for their constitutional rights.
Her remarks on Kenya Television Network (KTN) came in the wake of recent national demonstrations, during which she accused the government of sponsoring violence and failing to uphold the rule of law.

Karua condemned what she described as a regime unwilling to accept responsibility for a series of serious human rights violations, including abductions and property destruction during the July 25th protests.
She said this failure to act “was emblematic of leadership that remains passive even in the face of clear signs of unrest and injustice”.
Karua urged that all Kenyans be governed in accordance with the Constitution and that no citizen’s rights be undermined.
She emphasized that leaders—especially those in power—have a legal and moral obligation to protect citizens.
Karua accused members of the ruling class of attempting to dismantle the very Constitution that granted them the authority they now hold.
“This ruling class is trying to overthrow the Constitution passed by the people, which gave them positions they are holding and by which they swore to abide,” she stated.
“Contrarily, they have powers to abduct and kill a person who are supposed to be protected, which is against the Constitution.”
Karua further criticized the government for what she termed as inaction against police officers who allegedly used excessive force on peaceful protesters.
She condemned senior officials who, she claimed, directed security forces to take lives rather than protect them.
“I condemn the goons who were paid during the demos to disrupt the Gen Z demonstrations,” she said.
“Those involved in raping women, assaulting citizens, and looting businesses must face the full force of the law.”
Expressing sympathy for families who lost loved ones during the demonstrations, Karua called on the judiciary to assert its authority and ensure justice is served.
She decried the rising trend of disappearances and abductions, noting with concern that they had become a disturbing new normal.
Karua appealed to the government to listen to the voices of ordinary Kenyans and demanded accountability for leaders she described as incompetent.
She also called for the immediate release of detained activists and urged the state to enforce the law impartially and without intimidation.
