The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has honoured veteran broadcast journalist and member of Kisii Press Club (KPC), Josephine Karani with the Lifetime Award.
Karani bagged the award Friday evening in Nairobi during the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA), 2025 edition.

“This is surely a memorable evening for me, and I thank the MCK for the award,” she said.
As before, the 13th edition of AJEA recognized various journalists for their outstanding work.
A majority of those awarded had gone out of their way to do outstanding stories in the last one year.
Karani worked at the Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation (KBC) television for over two decades, where, among other roles, she produced impactful programmes for children.
She also played a key role in bringing football live on television at a time when Kenyans did not have many options for channels to watch sports action as it happened.
After KBC, Karani moved to the National Assembly where she headed the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit (PBU).
Since she retired about three years ago, Karani has remained active in the media space by engaging herself in roles such as mentorship and teaching media students.
At KPC, Karani is a member of the Mentorship and the Advisory Committees.
Following her recognition by the MCK, members of the club encouraged Karani to continue mentoring new entrants and upcoming professionals in the media space.
“Looking back at her imprints in media, Madam Josephine Karani is a worthy recipient of this crowning achievement in journalism,” said KPC chairperson, Nyang’au Araka.
