Radio journalist, Edward Carey Kwach has died.
He was 44.

Kwach, whose latest work outlet was Spice FM, which is owned by the Standard Media Group, died on Monday night.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, that occurred last night 28th April 2025 while receiving treatment for meningitis,” his family said in a statement.
“Carey touched the lives of many through his voice and presence on the airwaves, becoming a trusted and familiar companion to listeners across the country.”
The statement said that their kin will be remembered not only for his warmth and humour but also for his exceptional taste in music, which brought joy and comfort ta many.
“His passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew him personally and the many more who connected with him through his work.”
The journalist’s passing attracted comments online as Kenyans absorbed the tragic news.
Earlier this month, Kwach was admitted to Coptic Hospital in critical condition.
Well-wishers were urged to donate blood to help stabilise the radio personality’s condition.
“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support during his illness, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who donated blood, visited, and kept him in their thoughts and prayers,” his family said.
He initially pursued law before switching gears to media in the early 2000s, where he captivated audiences at Capital FM, Homeboyz Radio, Kiss FM, EA FM and Nation FM.
Kwach also worked at Urban Radio in Kisumu, where he co-hosted a breakfast show alongside Chris Okinda and Brian Oduor.
The journalist faced challenges throughout his career, including issues related to fame and alcohol, which he acknowledged contributed to job losses and own struggles.
Funeral and memorial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
“We kindly ask that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” his family said.
