Veteran Kakamega Sports Club professional Dismas Indiza produced a clutch finish to win his second Sunshine Development Tour title after defeating Karen Country Club’s Edwin Mudanyi in a sudden-death playoff at the Kabete Challenge held at VetLab Sports Club on Tuesday.
Indiza and Mudanyi finished regulation play tied at 3-under par 213, setting up a tense playoff after a final round that saw both players locked in a gripping duel down the stretch.

Indiza, who started the final day tied at the top alongside Mudanyi and Michael Karanga, signed for a steady 2-under-par 70. His round included birdies on holes 4, 5, 17 and 18, offset by bogeys on the 2nd and 7th, as he battled to stay in contention.
The defining moment of regulation play came on the 18th hole, where Indiza rolled in a decisive birdie to post the clubhouse lead and pile pressure on the final group.
“I’m very happy with the win. It wasn’t easy because the competition was very strong and Edwin played really well today,” Indiza said. “I stayed patient, trusted my experience and kept fighting until the last hole. Making that birdie on 18 gave me a chance, and once we got into the playoff, I just stayed focused and gave myself an opportunity.”
Mudanyi, who had controlled much of the final round, also returned a 2-under-par 70 with birdies on the 1st, 7th and 10th holes, dropping just one shot on the 3rd. He went into the final hole with a one-shot lead but could only par the 18th, opening the door for Indiza’s late surge.
“It’s disappointing to come so close and not get the win, but that’s golf,” Mudanyi said. “I played solidly throughout the week and gave myself a chance. There are plenty of positives to take forward.”
In the playoff, Indiza held his nerve to edge Mudanyi and secure the title, earning KES 300,000 from the KES 1.5 million prize purse. Mudanyi took home KES 160,500 as runner-up.
Elite amateur Adel Balala of Nyali Golf & Country Club finished third on 2-under par 214, continuing his strong run with a composed three-round performance.
“I’m pleased with how I played this week,” Balala said. “Competing against top professionals and finishing near the top gives me confidence.”
New professional Michael Karanga impressed again, finishing fourth on 1-under par 215, while Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera emerged as the top foreign player, tied eighth on 4-over par 220 alongside Kenya’s Mutahi Kibugu.
The Kabete Challenge attracted 67 players from 10 countries and formed the third leg of the 2026 Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing, offering OWGR, WAGR and Order of Merit points crucial for progression to the main Sunshine Tour.
