The Kenyan media fraternity is mourning the death of journalist Douglas Mudambo, a senior communication officer with the Kenya News Agency (KNA).
Mudambo’s passing has drawn tributes from colleagues, leaders, and media stakeholders across the country.

In a condolence message, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) described Mudambo, a Senior Information Officer in charge of Mt. Elgon Sub- County as a dedicated professional who served with distinction until his demise.
The council noted that he worked in the Mt. Elgon region and would be remembered for his “professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence.”
“The Media Council of Kenya joins the family, friends, and the wider media fraternity in mourning the untimely passing,” the statement read, adding, “He will be fondly remembered for his professionalism and dedication.”
Mudambo’s death has particularly shaken journalists in Bungoma County and the larger western Kenya region, where he built a reputation as a committed and reliable reporter.
He contributed to coverage of key development issues in Mt. Elgon, including agriculture and local governance stories published by KNA over the years.
Leaders and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute, describing him as a humble and hardworking journalist.
In one tribute, he was remembered as “a dedicated journalist… who faithfully served” the nation through his work at KNA.
Another mourner noted, “I join members of the media fraternity in mourning… a dedicated journalist,” highlighting his impact within the profession.
Friends and fellow journalists also recalled his early days in the field, with one tribute stating, “I knew Douglas Mudambo… may his soul rest in peace,” reflecting the personal connections he built throughout his career.
Mudambo’s passing has been described as a major loss to grassroots journalism, especially in rural reporting where he played a critical role in highlighting community issues.
His work often amplified the voices of residents in Mt. Elgon, shining a light on development challenges and opportunities in the region.
As tributes continue to pour in, colleagues say his legacy will endure through the stories he told and the lives he touched.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Media Council of Kenya said.
Meanwhile, Mudambo, who was until his death the Mt. Elgon Sub-County Information Officer, will be laid to rest at his home in Sikulu, Tongaren Sub-County, Bungoma County, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Family sources revealed that the body will leave a funeral home in Kimilili on Tuesday the 14th for a night vigil at home prior to the burial on the 15th.
The late Mudambo is survived by his wife Benedick Kipkarich and five children.
