The Executive Office of the President has moved to counter what it terms “misleading claims” by the opposition regarding delays in the issuance of National Identity Cards.

.“Let us be clear. There are no delays. What we are witnessing is political manipulation, outright falsehoods, and a desperate attempt to create anxiety among citizens.”
He pointed to verifiable figures from Nakuru County, where “1,413,791 IDs have been successfully delivered, with 31,449 applications currently in process across all sub-counties.”
Nakuru East alone has issued nearly half a million IDs, while other sub-counties such as Naivasha, Gilgil, and Njoro have each recorded tens of thousands of deliveries.
Itumbi argued that a system delivering over a million IDs in a single county cannot honestly be described as delayed.
“What exists is a structured, secure, and continuous process that ensures every Kenyan receives a legitimate and verified identity document.”
The statement situates the ID debate firmly in Kenya’s political context, with government accusing the opposition of attempting to erode public confidence in institutions ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“It is regrettable that some leaders continue to weaponize misinformation for short-term political gain. A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes. But no matter how far it travels, it does not become the truth,” Itumbi said.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to efficient service delivery, integrity of national identification systems, and equal access for all eligible citizens, urging the public to rely on verified data and official communication channels rather than politically driven narratives.
