The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has moved to reassure Kenyans that the country has sufficient fuel stocks, following temporary supply challenges reported in isolated filling stations earlier this week.
The disruption, according to the Ministry, was caused by what officials described as a “technical and administrative hitch” affecting a few oil marketing companies in the downstream supply chain.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi confirmed that the matter had been addressed and deliveries were being normalized across the country.
“Fuel restocking in various filling stations is underway, and normal supply across the country will be attained by the end of the day today,” he stated.
The Ministry emphasized that the situation was under control and urged the public not to panic.
“The country has adequate fuel stocks. There should be no cause for alarm,”
Wandayi said, adding that the government remains committed to safeguarding national energy security.
He noted that reliable fuel supply is critical for households, businesses, and industries, and assured that measures had been taken to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
The announcement comes after motorists in some regions reported difficulties accessing fuel, sparking concerns of a wider shortage.
Industry stakeholders have since been working closely with the government to streamline deliveries and ensure consistent supply.
Officials highlighted that the hitch was localized and did not reflect the overall state of national reserves.
By Wednesday afternoon, several filling stations had resumed normal operations, with tankers dispatched to replenish outlets that had experienced delays.
The Ministry reiterated its collaboration with oil marketers to stabilize the downstream sector and maintain confidence in the energy supply chain.
“The Government remains committed to safeguarding national energy security and ensuring reliable fuel supply for households, businesses, and industries nationwide,” Wandayi affirmed in the statement.
