Seventeen years after leaving the gates of The Kenya High School, Senator Esther Okenyuri walked back onto the familiar pavements of her alma mater on Thursday.
Although clad in the school uniform, Okenyuri did not go there as a student but as a guest celebrating the achievements of a new generation.

The Prize Giving Day brought together students, parents, teachers, and dignitaries, including Principal Secretary for Basic Education Dr. Julius Bitok.
For Senator Okenyuri, the occasion was more than ceremonial; it was deeply personal, as she revealed in her texts posted on Facebook.
“Standing within these grounds reminded me that it is where I was shaped. It is where my dreams were nurtured, my character moulded, and my foundation for the future laid,” she said, recalling her years at the school between 2006 and 2009.
The Senator described the return as a flood of memories—friendships formed in Naivasha House, the excitement of reporting back after holidays, the long hours of study, and the laughter that defined her time as a student.
“Kenya High is more than a school; it is a place where young minds are empowered to believe in themselves and pursue greatness,” she added.
The day’s celebrations honored students who excelled in academics and co-curricular activities.
Each award, she noted, symbolized “hours of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, determination, and commitment to excellence.”
She congratulated the recipients while extending encouragement to continuing students and those transitioning to university.
“The world awaits your talents, and I have no doubt many of you will go on to become leaders, innovators, professionals, and changemakers,” she said.
Senator Okenyuri also paid tribute to the teachers, parents, and guardians whose support has been instrumental in shaping the students’ success.
The Bomarian (a name given to former and current students of the school) said behind every successful student is a community of people who believed in them and encouraged them to keep moving forward.
Bomarians carry with them a lifelong pride in Kenya High School, bound by discipline, friendship, and a shared legacy of excellence that continues to inspire generations.
