Nyamira County Assembly Deputy Clerk and Director of Finance Leonard Kevin Nyamasege has been arrested over alleged irregularities in the construction of an assembly office block.
Authorities claim the procurement process was manipulated, resulting in an unlawful benefit of more than Sh30.1 million to a contractor.

EACC said investigations revealed that the construction tender was irregularly awarded to Jetta Builders Limited despite the company not being the lowest evaluated bidder.
The Commission alleges that the unlawful award conferred an undue financial benefit of more than Sh30.1 million to the contractor.
Following the Director of Public Prosecutions’ approval of criminal charges, Nyamasege and five other suspects are set to face charges of abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with laws governing the management of public funds, and negligence of official duty.
Nyamasege was arrested and presented before the Nyamira Law Courts on Tuesday, where the matter came before Principal Magistrate Christabel Agutu.
However, plea taking was postponed after the defence informed the court that it had obtained conservatory orders from the High Court in Kisumu temporarily barring the arrest and arraignment of the accused pending the hearing and determination of a petition before the court.
The prosecution maintained that the orders had not been served on the Commission before the arrest was effected.
The case will be mentioned on July 28, 2026, for further directions.
The arrest comes weeks after EACC apprehended Nyamira County Assembly Clerk Duke Simeon Onyari on June 3, 2026, over the same investigation.
The anti-graft agency said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects.
