The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced the resumption of operations at the Amboseli Main Airstrip in Amboseli National Park, following a temporary closure caused by flooding in March.
The airstrip was shut down on 9th March 2026 after heavy rainfall left the runway unsafe for aircraft operations.

A joint technical inspection conducted on 7th May 2026 confirmed that the facility has sufficiently recovered and is now in good condition for safe use.
In line with the findings, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority officially withdrew the closure notice (NOTAM), clearing the way for airlines, pilots, and tour operators to resume direct flights to the airstrip without restriction.
KWS expressed gratitude to visitors, tour operators, and hoteliers for their patience during the suspension, noting its commitment to safety and efficient access across all national parks.
“The Amboseli Main Airstrip is now safe and fully operational. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders during the temporary closure,” KWS stated.
