Residents of Keera area in Nyatieko Ward, Kitutu Chache South, Kisii County, have been left without water after unknown vandals dismantled a multimillion-shilling water project serving more than 300 households.

The project, which was installed and launched by Kisii Governor Paul Simba Arati, had extended water supply beyond Keera to areas as far as Manga, providing relief to families that depended on it for their daily needs.

But residents are now staring at dry taps after the vandals made away with the project’s water pump.

Members of the project committee said the incident had not only disrupted domestic water supply but also threatened irrigation activities that residents had embraced to improve food production and household incomes.

The committee members said the loss of the pump had effectively brought the project to a standstill, leaving hundreds of families to seek alternative sources of water.

They appealed to local leaders and security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to account.

The residents said the project had become an important part of life in the area, supporting both household water needs and farming activities.

Its disruption, they said, could force families to abandon or scale down irrigation at a time when many were relying on farming to supplement their incomes and improve food security.

The project committee urged the authorities to treat the matter as urgent and facilitate the restoration of the water supply.

They also called for measures to protect the infrastructure from further vandalism once repairs are completed.
