Leaders allied to President William Ruto have urged Kenyans to re-elect him in the 2027 General Election, saying his administration should be judged by its development record.

Speaking during a boda boda empowerment event at Igonga grounds in Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County, Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet called on voters to support leaders focused on development and national unity rather than ethnic politics.

“We want leaders who bring development to the people, not those who are full of ethnicity,” Kibet said.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed joined other leaders at the gathering in backing Ruto’s second-term bid, arguing that the broad-based political arrangement would strengthen their position ahead of the 2027 polls.

The leaders urged residents to evaluate the government’s performance and support its development agenda, saying political competition should centre on improving livelihoods rather than dividing communities along ethnic lines.

The meeting brought together several political figures, including Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya Toto, Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri, Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi, John Bwire, Mwengi Mutuse and Innocent Mugabe.

Donya Toto hosted the boda boda empowerment event as she seeks to become Bonchari MP in the 2027 General Election.

The gathering also provided a platform for leaders to consolidate political support in the region, with several expressing backing for Ruto’s re-election campaign.

The mobilisation comes as political leaders step up grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 polls, with development, national unity and the government’s record increasingly featuring in their campaigns.
