For some families, a school fees bill can mean the difference between a child remaining in class and being sent home.
At Kereri Girls’ High School, intervention by South Mugirango MP and National Assembly Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro has helped ease that burden for a number of needy students, prompting the school to formally thank him for supporting vulnerable learners.

In a letter addressed to Osoro, Chief Principal and Board of Management Secretary Dr Tabitha Mogonchi said the support had brought relief to families struggling to meet school fees.
“Your kind intervention in paying school fees for vulnerable learners has brought immense relief to many families,” Mogonchi wrote on behalf of the Board of Management, staff, parents and students.
The principal said the assistance had helped keep girls in school and enabled them to continue pursuing their education without the disruption that comes with fee arrears.
“Through your support, you have kept our girls in school, restored their dignity and given them hope to pursue their academic dreams,” she said.
The school also noted that the beneficiaries were not limited to students from Osoro’s South Mugirango constituency, with needy learners from other parts of the country studying at Kereri Girls also receiving assistance.

The gesture has placed the focus on a familiar challenge facing many Kenyan families: finding money to keep children in school as household expenses compete with education costs.
Mogonchi said Osoro’s support was particularly significant given his national responsibilities as Majority Chief Whip.
“As the Majority Chief Whip of the National Assembly, your service to the nation is evident, yet you have still found time to touch lives at the grassroots,” she said.
Osoro responded to the school’s appreciation with a short message suggesting that the support would continue where possible.
“Kumbe kuna wale huona na kushukuru? Kereri Girls, thank you very much,” he wrote.
“We endeavor to do even more as God blesses us. Watoto wasome.”
The school prayed for blessings and wisdom for Osoro as he continues serving South Mugirango and the country, while expressing its gratitude for an intervention it said had offered vulnerable learners a chance to remain in school.
