A 26-year-old woman who went to Buruburu Police Station to deliver a loaf of bread to her detained boyfriend instead found herself in police custody after officers discovered bhang hidden inside the loaf.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Bernice Achieng had visited the station to see her boyfriend, who is being held in custody, and asked officers at the report office to pass the bread to him.

But the unsealed package caught the officers’ attention.
A search of the loaf uncovered five rolls of bhang and a matchbox buried deep inside the bread.
The discovery prompted officers to search Achieng further, leading to the recovery of seven more rolls of bhang stuffed in the pocket of her jacket.
“In total, twelve rolls of bhang were recovered from the suspect,” the DCI said.
Achieng remained in custody as officers secured the exhibits, with the suspect expected to be arraigned in court.
Motorcycle chase ends in crash
In a separate incident in Thika, a suspected drug peddler was arrested after a motorcycle chase through Kairi, Thika West, ended in a crash and the recovery of more than 300 rolls of bhang.
The DCI said the suspect, John Mwangi alias “Bombay”, was riding a motorcycle with a female pillion passenger when the two encountered a police roadblock.
The rider allegedly accelerated in an attempt to evade the officers but lost control of the motorcycle near Ree Supermarket after hitting a speed bump.
The motorcycle crashed, allowing the female passenger to disappear into the crowd.
Mwangi was arrested at the scene, while a search of the motorcycle led to the recovery of 300 rolls of bhang and an additional three kilograms of the drug wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped to the seat.
Mwangi was taken to Kimuchu Police Station, where he was being processed pending arraignment.
