The Law Society of Kenya has called for urgent investigations into the death of advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa following a reported assault.
In a statement dated April 23, LSK said it was “profoundly grieved and concerned” by Imbukwa’s death after he succumbed to injuries sustained in what it described as a brutal attack.

“It has been reported that Counsel Imbukwa was found… after having been assaulted… and later passed away,” the Society said, noting he had been admitted to the ICU at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The Society raised alarm over claims that Imbukwa had received threats from a police officer weeks before the incident and had been living in fear.
“These accounts remain subject to verification through investigations,” LSK added.
It also cited disturbing preliminary observations, including injuries “reportedly consistent with torture,” and questioned inconsistencies at the scene.
“This discrepancy raises concerns… and highlights the urgent need for thorough, transparent, and independent investigations.”
LSK linked the killing to a broader pattern of insecurity affecting lawyers, warning that “any attack on an Advocate is… an attack on the justice system itself.”
The Society urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Police Service to conduct “prompt, impartial, and comprehensive investigations.”
LSK President Charles Kanjama said the Society would support the family legally and ensure an independent postmortem process.
“The Society will not relent until the truth is established and accountability is achieved,” the statement said.
