Kenya has assured it will meet all financial and infrastructural requirements as preparations intensify for the co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya said the government is working closely with key institutions, including the Parliamentary Committee on Sports and the National Treasury, under a whole-of-government approach to mobilize resources for the continental showpiece.

Speaking Tuesday during the launch of the FIFA Women’s Series, set for April 11–15 in Kenya, Mvurya reassured both local and international stakeholders of the country’s commitment.
“I want to assure all Kenyans and our international stakeholders, including the Confederation of African Football (CAF), that we are meeting both our financial obligations and infrastructural compliances,” he said.
He added that Kenya’s preparations are on track, expressing confidence in the country’s ability to deliver a world-class tournament.
“We are on course with our sports infrastructure. This is why we invited CAF to come and check on our progress because we know we are doing excellently,” Mvurya noted.
Kenya is part of the joint “Pamoja East Africa” bid, which secured the rights to host AFCON 2027. As part of the hosting requirements, the country is expected to pay a mandatory fee of Sh3.9 billion.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has also required host nations to upgrade and rehabilitate key sporting facilities.
Construction of the 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium is now over 87 percent complete and is set to serve as the main venue for matches.
The Moi International Sports Centre will also host games, while Nyayo National Stadium is earmarked as a training facility.
Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi described the opportunity to host AFCON as a major milestone for the country and called on Kenyans to rally behind the initiative.
“We should be very proud and passionate that we are hosting this great sporting tournament,” he said.
