The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), has announced two major initiatives aimed at expanding access to higher education and training.
The two are the teacher upgrade programme and fresh intakes for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

The teacher upgrade programme targets educators holding P1 or Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificates, offering them a pathway to earn a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
Eligible teachers are those registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and can apply online and select their preferred Teacher Training College (TTC).
Training will begin this month or during the November–December school holidays, with the first application deadline set for August 20, 2025.
“This upgrade programme ensures that Kenya has a sufficient pool of teachers equipped to deliver the Competency Based Education (CBE), especially at foundational levels,” said KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome in a statement.
“We urge all eligible teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their qualifications and contribute to the future of education.”
Applications are to be submitted via the dedicated portal: teachersupgrade.kuccps.ac.ke.
In addition, KUCCPS has reopened applications for placement into TVET institutions for the September 2025 intake, running from August 8 to August 22, 2025.
To encourage more applicants, the agency has slashed the application fee from KES 1,500 to KES 500.
These moves follow the successful rollout of the Kenya School of Law’s Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies) on the KUCCPS platform, which drew over 800 applications for just 500 slots earlier this year.
