Prof. Henry Onderi of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) is among Kenyans who got honoured during the Arise Circle-Transformational Leadership Awards (AC-TLA) recently.
Prof. Onderi bagged the Distinguished Scholarly, Research and Transformative Education Development award.

The ceremony was held in Nairobi.
A pioneer County Education Board (CEB) chairman for Kisii, Prof. Onderi is the author of Basic Education in Kenya: A Reality Check.
The book, which was releases this year examines the country’s education landscape and offers thought provoking ideas to stakeholders.
“I appreciate this recognition and ask all of us to be an inspiration to others,” Prof. Onderi said in his acceptance speech.
Prof. Onderi who also holds other awards including the I-Change Nations (ICN) is a former high school teacher, principal and director of a university campus.
According to his profile published on the JOOUST website, Prof. Onderi is currently the director of Institutional Advancement and International Office.
He has so far published 38 articles in internationally refereed journals, and supervised 13 masters and 8 PhDs to completion.
Media personalities Elijah Nyaanga (Scholar Media Africa) and Nancy Omweri (Royal Media Services), as well as other transformative leaders in various disciplines were also awarded.
Kenyan lawyer, Prof. PLO Lumumba who was the chief guest said that transformational leadership was about changing the world for the better.
“We live in a world where men and women simply want to be important, but we must strive to be celebrated for our positive contributions,” he said.
The AC-TLA is the brainchild of Edinah Kangwana, the Founder and CEO of Arise Circle, and it celebrates individuals and organizations making significant impacts in their communities.
“Grounded in timeless principles of honor, these awards aim to revive and promote values that shape leadership development, inspiring societal transformation and fostering a lasting legacy,” Kangwana said.
Her sentiments were echoed by Dr. Walter Okibo Bichanga, who stated that, “We need to start bringing change, right from wherever we are.”
