The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has conferred an Honorary Doctor (Honoris Causa) of Business Administration degree to business magnet Jared Kangwana.
“The conferment is recognition of Kangwana’s distinguished contribution to entrepreneurship and a free independent media in the country,” the University said in a statement.

The conferment occurred during the university’s graduation ceremony on Tuesday.
Kangwana has made imprints in various sectors of the country and world’s economy.
Among those, he is the founder and executive chairman of the Kenya Television Network (KTN), which is the first ever independent television station in the country.
He also served as chairman of the Kenya Times Media Trust.
Born in Kisii in 1949, Kangwana studied in a local primary school before he proceeded to Kisii School, then called Government African School (GAS)-Kisii.
Kangwana studied law at the University of Nairobi (UoN) before he got a scholarship to pursue a masters’ degree in law at the University of Edinburg, Scotland.
Before plunging into business, Kangwana taught at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) and the UoN.
He has also held several national and international roles including serving as founding member of the Capital Markets Advisory (CMA) Board.
Kangwana was also a member of the Ndegwa Commission on employment and training in Kenya.
Between 2000 and2006, Kangwana served as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
During his tenure at the assembly, he collaborated in drafting and steering at least six Bills which ultimately became laws.
The laws were assented to by the Heads of State of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
This included the East African Community Customs Act.
The community has expanded and brought on board more of her neighbours.
He also has business interests in hospitality, real estate, financial services and music publishing.
