Kamba Benga musician Alex Kasau Katombi has been ordered to immediately remove his ‘Wikend’ music video from YouTube and other public distribution platforms over alleged breaches of film regulations.
In a notice dated October 16, 2026, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) said a compliance review found that the video contained sexually explicit material, nudity and indecent exposure, alongside depictions of substance abuse, alcohol consumption and tobacco use.

The board said the video, published on Katombi’s YouTube channel, had neither been licensed for production nor classified before its release to the public.
“Through routine compliance monitoring, the Board flagged a music video titled ‘Wikend’, published on your YouTube channel (Alex Kasau Katombi), in which you are identified as the performing artist,” the notice stated.
KFCB said the content had been deemed unsuitable for general exhibition under the Films and Stage Plays Act, which governs the production, distribution and exhibition of audiovisual content in Kenya.
Citing Section 4 of the Act, the board said films intended for public exhibition or sale could not be produced in Kenya without a valid filming licence.
It also invoked Section 12, which requires films to be submitted for examination and classification to determine their suitability for different audiences before public distribution, exhibition or broadcast.
“In view of the foregoing, you are hereby directed to immediately take down the music video from your YouTube channel and all other public distribution platforms,” the notice read.
The board further directed the musician to ensure that all previous and future audiovisual productions comply with statutory licensing and classification requirements before they are exhibited or distributed.
“Failure to comply with these directives will attract immediate legal action without further reference to you,” the notice stated.
The letter was signed by KFCB acting chief executive officer Petronilla Mueni and copied to film producer Tina Clara of Tina Tales.
