Sun King has expanded its PowerHub solar inverter range to support larger homes, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities and light industrial operations seeking reliable electricity amid growing demand for alternative power solutions in Kenya.

The new additions, unveiled at the Windsor Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday, October 8, expand the company’s inverter portfolio to capacities ranging from 2.2 kilowatts (kW) to 30kW.

The systems are designed to provide households and businesses with greater flexibility in meeting their energy needs, including running appliances and equipment that require higher power capacity.

Atta Arome, Sun King’s Product Head for Solar Inverter Systems, said the expanded range would enable the company to serve customers with varying electricity requirements.

“The latest additions to our PowerHub range take us into new territory. We can now serve homes, shops, businesses, schools, hospitals, and offices of virtually any size,” Arome said.

“PowerHub systems are already powering offices and entire schools. This expansion is another step forward to deliver more energy across Kenya. Simply put, it is more power.”

The company said the systems can be connected in parallel, allowing customers to link two or more inverters to increase their combined power output.

This arrangement enables users to operate larger appliances and equipment, including water pumps, washing machines and microwaves, depending on their system configuration.

The systems also allow customers to expand their installations over time by adding capacity, battery storage and solar panels as their energy requirements increase, without necessarily replacing existing equipment.

The expanded range targets customers seeking to reduce their reliance on the national electricity grid and fuel-powered generators, particularly during power interruptions.

For businesses, schools, clinics and light industrial facilities, the company says the higher-capacity options can provide electricity for entire buildings.

Flexible financing and nationwide support

Sun King, which has operated in Kenya since 2007, said its approach combines solar technology, flexible payment arrangements, installation and after-sales support to make its products accessible to a wider range of customers.

Catherine Mudachi, the company’s Vice President of Marketing, said the expansion would give more households and businesses access to reliable electricity through its established distribution network.

“Millions of customers across Africa know they can trust Sun King to help them make the move to solar,” Mudachi said.

“With quality products, professional installation, after-sales care and flexible financing all under one roof. As we expand PowerHub, we’re giving even more customers the confidence to access the reliable energy they need to power their homes and businesses.”

The company said customers deal directly with Sun King throughout the process, from system design and installation to maintenance and warranty support.

Victor Agandi, Sun King’s Vice President for Pay As You Go in East and Southern Africa, said the financing arrangements were intended to help customers access higher-capacity systems without meeting the entire cost upfront.

“Starting from KSh23,600 a month with a small down payment, customers can access more power straight away, with flexible payments, full warranty and nationwide installation and after-sales support,” Agandi said.

“This means customers receive support from a single trusted provider throughout the lifetime of their system.”

The release, however, lists different starting prices in its financing statements. While Agandi cites monthly payments starting at KSh23,600, the product availability section gives a starting monthly payment of KSh15,500 and a down payment of KSh22,600.

The company will need to clarify which pricing applies to the newly introduced inverter options and the conditions attached to each financing plan.

Growing presence in Kenya

Sun King said one in five Kenyans has access to its solar solutions, supported by a nationwide network of agents who sell and service its products.

Across Africa, the company said, more than 330,000 of its solar products are installed every month.

Founded in 2007, Sun King provides off-grid solar products and financing to households and businesses in Africa and Asia, particularly in communities where access to reliable electricity remains limited.
