The Ministry of Health has assured frontline health workers of government support as Kenya strengthens preparedness and response measures against the Ebola virus.

Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said the government recognised the sacrifices health workers were making to protect the public and would continue investing in essential supplies and protective equipment.

Speaking at Afya House in Nairobi during the reception of protective equipment donated by the World Health Organization (WHO), Muthoni said the ministry was addressing concerns raised by frontline personnel, including the need for adequate protective gear.

She noted that the urgency of replenishing supplies was heightened by the fact that much of the protective equipment was designed for single use.

“The government is fully aware of and supportive of the sacrifices our health workers are making to guarantee the safety of Kenyans,” she said, adding that their concerns were being addressed.

Muthoni also called on health partners to complement government efforts by providing additional resources to ease pressure on the healthcare system.

The WHO donated laboratory supplies and protective equipment worth KSh9 million to support health workers, while pledging further assistance in the coming days.

The support comes as health authorities seek to ensure that frontline personnel have the necessary equipment to carry out their duties safely during the Ebola response.

The Ministry of Health has also urged Kenyans to avoid spreading unverified information about the virus, advising the public to rely on official government communications for accurate updates.

The ministry said responsible information-sharing was essential to prevent unnecessary public alarm and ensure that Kenyans receive reliable guidance on the disease.
