About 300 golfers from Nairobi and neighbouring clubs are expected to converge at Ruiru Sports Club this weekend for the fourth edition of the annual Legendary Golf Tournament.

The tournament will be played over the club’s challenging par-73, 18-hole course, with defending champion Catherine Kamene returning to defend her title against a strong field.

Peter Nuthu, John Timbe and Ruth Wang’ombe are among the golfers expected to challenge for honours in what promises to be a competitive day on the fairways.

The morning field will tee off at 6:30am, while the afternoon action is scheduled to run from 10:30am to 1pm.

Ruiru Sports Club captain Justus Mathenge said the tournament had continued to grow since its inception, attracting golfers from different clubs and professional backgrounds.

“We are delighted to welcome close to 300 golfers for the fourth edition of the Legendary Golf Tournament,” Mathenge said.

“The continued growth of this event demonstrates the strong bond that golf creates among people from different backgrounds. We look forward to a competitive day on the course, but also to the camaraderie and networking that have become an important part of this tournament.”

The tournament is also expected to reinforce Ruiru Sports Club’s growing profile as a venue for major golfing events in Kenya.

The club has hosted a diverse calendar of competitions, including the Kenya Ladies Golf Union’s Golfer of the Year (GOTY) events, corporate tournaments and social golf competitions.

Among the recent events hosted at the club was the Swine and Wine Tournament, won by Stephen Kungu.

The fourth edition of the Legendary Golf Tournament is supported by First Assurance, Legendary Golfers and Tropical Brands.

Beyond the competition, golfers will have an opportunity to enjoy mid-course nyama choma, adding a Kenyan touch to the tournament experience.

The day will conclude with live music, giving participants an opportunity to unwind and celebrate after a day on the course.
