Safaricom has committed KSh2 million to the 2026 Safari 7s tournament as rugby fans prepare for three days of action at Nyayo National Stadium from October 9 to 11.

The sponsorship, delivered through M-PESA, will support enhanced connectivity at the stadium and bring Safaricom’s digital, payment and customer services closer to fans, businesses and tournament organisers.

The telecommunications company said it would strengthen network capacity at the venue to allow fans to share and follow the action, while dedicated connectivity will support live broadcasting of the tournament.

“Safari 7s is an important platform for showcasing Kenya’s sporting talent and bringing fans together,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.

“Our support reflects Safaricom’s commitment to using technology, connectivity and digital services to enhance the experience for fans, athletes and organisers.”

The sponsorship builds on Safaricom’s two-year partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), valued at more than KSh100 million, which supports Kenya’s national Sevens teams, Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses.

The partnership provides players and officials with monthly allowances, medical insurance, airtime allowances and financial literacy programmes.

KRU chairperson Harriet Okach welcomed the additional support, saying the investment would help fans remain connected while strengthening Safaricom’s contribution to women’s rugby.

“We look forward to delivering an exciting Safari 7s and encourage fans to turn up in large numbers to support our teams,” she said.

Fans will also be able to access matchday tickets through the Tikohub MiniApp on My OneApp, alongside streaming bundles for following the tournament. M-PESA GlobalPay will also be available as a payment option during the event.

The 28th edition of Safari 7s will bring together 18 teams in the men’s and women’s competitions.

Defending champions Kenya Shujaa and Kenya Lionesses will return to Nyayo seeking to retain their titles.

The men’s tournament will feature Shujaa, Kenya Morans and a mix of international and invitational teams, while the women’s competition will include the Lionesses, Kenya Cubs, Shibli and teams from Uganda, Tunisia and Spain.
