Home player Cyprian Bundi turned last year’s disappointment into victory on Sunday after winning the NCBA Nanyuki Open, his maiden Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Series title, at Nanyuki Sports Club.

Bundi, who finished runner-up in last year’s edition, maintained his composure throughout the three-day tournament to lead from start to finish and card a one-under-par 215 for the title.

He opened with a two-under-par 70 in the first round before returning a one-over-par 73 in the second round to remain at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round.

Bundi completed the tournament with an even-par 72 on Sunday to seal victory on home turf.

“It feels incredible to finally get the win. Last year I came close and finished second, so coming back this year and being able to go all the way means a lot to me,” Bundi said.

“I trusted my game throughout the three rounds, stayed patient, and focused on taking one shot at a time. I am very grateful for the support and proud to finally have the NCBA Nanyuki Open title.”

Seasoned amateur Elvis Muigua finished second after carding rounds of 72, 74 and 71 for a one-over-par 217, while John Kamais was third on two-over-par 218 after rounds of 73, 74 and 71.

William Odek and Daniel Mwangi tied for fourth on three-over-par, while Diani Beach Masters winner Alex Mwangi finished sixth on four-over-par.

Peter Macharia and Kamoza Chege shared seventh place on five-over-par, with Josphat Rono and Rafael Leming’ani completing the top 10 after tying on six-over-par.

Kenya Golf Union Vice Chairman Jonathan Marucha congratulated Bundi on his breakthrough victory and praised the quality of competition at Nanyuki Sports Club.

“Congratulations to Cyprian Bundi on a very well-earned maiden victory. To lead from the opening round and maintain that position through to the final day speaks to the quality and consistency of his performance,” Marucha said.

He added that the tournament continued to provide an important platform for amateur golfers to develop their game.

The result has also reshaped the KAGC Series standings, with Jay Sandhu retaining the overall lead on 1,535 points, followed by Kamais on 1,125.

Muigua is third on 989 points, Adel Taufiq Balala fourth on 814, while Rono completes the top five with 695.16 points.

The opening leg attracted 60 junior golfers, comprising 22 girls and 38 boys.

Chauhan carded a seven-over-par 79 in the Boys 15-18 category to finish ahead of Aryan Awe Joseph, who posted 18-over-par, while David Kaguru was third on 24-over-par.

Teneva returned a nine-over-par 45 in the Girls 9-10 category to take the title ahead of Avian Klee, who finished on 12-over-par, and Natalie Amor on 18-over-par.
