Nyamira Town remained calm and largely unaffected on Monday as businesses, transport services and public institutions continued operating normally despite calls for Saba Saba demonstrations in various parts of the country.
A spot check across the town showed traders opening their shops early, public service vehicles operating on schedule and residents going about their daily activities without interruption.

Markets, supermarkets, banks, restaurants and other businesses remained open throughout the day, serving customers as usual.
The peaceful atmosphere contrasted with reports of demonstrations and heightened security in several parts of the country as Kenyans marked Saba Saba, a day that holds significant historical importance in the country’s democratic journey.
The annual commemoration recalls the July 7, 1990 pro-democracy movement that pushed for political pluralism and constitutional reforms.
In Nyamira, however, there were no reported demonstrations, confrontations or incidents of property destruction.
“We opened our shop early in the morning just like any other day. Customers have been coming in, and business is progressing normally,” said Moraa, a trader in the town centre.
Motorcycle operators and matatu crews continued ferrying passengers to various destinations, while pedestrians moved freely within the central business district.
Public service vehicle operators reported no interruptions on major roads leading into and out of the town.
Schools and government offices that remained open also carried on with their normal operations, with no visible signs of disruption.
Residents welcomed the calm environment, saying it enabled them to conduct business, attend work and run personal errands without inconvenience.
“The peaceful atmosphere is good for everyone. People can work, shop and travel without fear,” said one resident.
The calm witnessed in Nyamira came amid tight security measures across the country following calls by some groups to mark Saba Saba through demonstrations over governance, economic and accountability concerns.
Security agencies had earlier assured the public that adequate measures had been put in place to maintain law and order while safeguarding constitutional rights.
As the day progressed, residents continued with their routines, with many expressing hope that the prevailing peace would be maintained.
