Rugby great Collins Injera inspired Kenya Rugby Legends to a remarkable comeback victory over Uganda Legends on Sunday as they successfully defended the SportPesa Legends Cup with a 32-26 aggregate triumph.
Trailing after a narrow 16-15 defeat in the first leg in Nairobi, Kenya rose to the occasion in Kampala, producing a disciplined display to secure a 17-10 victory in the return fixture and reclaim bragging rights in East African rugby’s premier legends contest.

Uganda responded with a penalty midway through the first half, but Kenya struck again just before the break when Victor Sudi crossed over for a crucial try, giving the visitors a seven-point advantage heading into halftime.
The second half developed into a tense battle, with both sides missing opportunities before Kenya found the decisive breakthrough in the 64th minute.
Tony Owuor touched down for a vital try, and Darwin Mukidza added the conversion to extend the lead to 17-3.
Uganda refused to surrender and hit back through Robert Aziku, reducing the deficit and setting up a nervy finish.
However, Kenya’s defence stood firm, repelling repeated attacks from close-range scrums to seal the victory and retain the trophy.
Speaking after the match, Kenya Rugby Legends hailed the team’s resilience in overturning the first-leg deficit.

The victory was particularly significant as it came after Kenya had suffered a 16-15 defeat in Nairobi, a result that had ended their six-match unbeaten run against their East African rivals.
Organisers noted that the SportPesa Legends Cup, launched in 2023, continues to celebrate the rich history of rugby in East Africa while providing a platform for former stars to inspire the next generation of players.
