It supplied the entire tree with vital nutrients.
The tree grew in stature,
Its green leaves flourishing,
Its fruits developing to feed both birds and humans.

Scavengers perched atop the tree,
Enjoying their kill
And strategizing from a bird’s-eye view.
The branches that appeared so stout
Drew their strength from the stump.

Some birds called the tree home,
And the tree purified the air for humanity.
Then the owner decided to cut it down.
The stump remained—forgotten and abandoned.

Slowly, the stump rotted from beneath,
Creating holes and hidden shelters.
Yet in time, it might sprout again,
Sending forth many new branches.

But if the soil proves unfavourable,
The stump will gradually fade away,
And be forgotten.
