Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has declared that the Linda Mwananchi movement is the only political outfit capable of steering Kenya toward a new era of governance.
Speaking in Kisii on Friday morning before the movement’s scheduled rally, Kang’ata said the coalition is committed to uniting the country, strengthening public institutions, and delivering leadership that places the interests of ordinary Kenyans at the centre of government.

He said a Linda Mwananchi administration would prioritize free education for all learners, strengthen the country’s healthcare system to guarantee accessible and quality medical services, create opportunities for young people, and implement policies aimed at reducing the cost of living.
The governor also criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration over the Housing Levy, arguing that Kenyans continue to shoulder mandatory deductions without seeing corresponding benefits.
He called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
On governance and human rights, Kang’ata condemned the recent reports of alleged abductions and extrajudicial killings, saying such incidents undermine Kenya’s democratic gains and erode public confidence in state institutions.
He said the freedoms enjoyed today were secured through the sacrifices of pro-democracy leaders such as George Moseti Anyona, Kenneth Matiba, and Charles Rubia and must be safeguarded.
He urged residents, particularly the youth expected to attend the Kisii rally, to remain peaceful and ensure the day’s activities are conducted without violence or destruction of property.
Kang’ata’s continued association with the Linda Mwananchi movement is likely to attract significant political attention.
As the governor of Murang’a County—a key county in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region that overwhelmingly supported President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election—his participation is expected to fuel debate over shifting political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
Although Kang’ata has not formally announced that he is leaving the Kenya Kwanza coalition, his prominent role in the opposition-backed movement is widely viewed as an indication that the coalition is making inroads into regions previously considered strongholds of President Ruto’s support.
The Kisii rally forms part of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s nationwide mobilisation campaign, bringing together opposition leaders as they seek to rally support around governance reforms, economic recovery, accountability, and constitutional freedoms ahead of the next General Election.
