Britam has unveiled four professional golfers it will sponsor in the second season of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour, reaffirming its commitment to the growth of professional golf in Kenya and the wider East African region.
The financial services firm has selected Kennedy Abuto, Simon Njogu, John Kagiri, and Joyce Wanjiru to represent the company during the 2026/27 PGK Equator Tour season.

Wanjiru joins Naom Wafula and Margaret Njoki as the only female professionals competing in this year’s tour.
Britam Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tom Gitogo said the sponsorship reflects the company’s continued investment in developing professional golf talent.
“We are focused on raising the standard of professional golf in Kenya and across East Africa.
For the second year running, we are backing four players who will represent Britam with pride and compete at the highest level. We wish them success in the season ahead,” said Gitogo.
The PGK Equator Tour serves as a key qualifying pathway for Kenyan professionals seeking entry into the Magical Kenya Open, the country’s premier international golf tournament on the DP World Tour calendar.
This season’s tour features 11 tournaments hosted at some of Kenya’s top golf courses.
The opening two legs have already been played at Vetlab Sports Club and Thika Sports Club, with upcoming events scheduled for Limuru, Nyali, Ruiru, Nakuru, Sigona, Royal Nairobi, Mt. Kipipiri Golf and Resort, and Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort before the season finale at a venue yet to be announced.
Wanjiru welcomed the sponsorship, describing the tour as a valuable platform for professional golfers to test themselves against the country’s best talent.
“The PGK Equator Tour is a prestigious event because it gives players the chance to compete against some of the best golfers in the country. I am honored to be part of the Britam team and one of the few women in this year’s edition,” she said.
“I hope we perform well and continue pushing our game forward.”
Beyond sponsorship, Britam has provided each of the four golfers with a Golfers’ Insurance Cover, offering protection as they compete throughout the season.
According to the company, the inaugural PGK Equator Tour delivered significant sporting and economic benefits, creating opportunities for players while boosting business activity for host clubs, hotels, transport operators, restaurants and other service providers in tournament destinations.
After two rounds of the current season, Samuel Chege leads the standings with a gross score of 278, followed closely by Dismas Indiza on 279 and Michael Karanga on 283.
The third leg of the tour is scheduled to take place at Limuru Country Club from June 18 to 21, 2026.
