Nyamira County marked a milestone in its youth empowerment journey with the graduation of the 3rd and 4th cohorts of the Digital Youth Empowerment Programme on Wednesday.
The ceremony, presided over by Governor Amos Nyaribo at the county headquarters, saw 57 young people complete training in technology, online opportunities, web development, graphics, and content writing.

Governor Nyaribo underscored the central role of youth in driving economic growth.
“The youth are the engine powering a towering and thriving economy. That is why my administration is investing massive resources in education and training, focusing on job demand-driven skills to enable our youth grow and succeed in digital jobs and other forms of entrepreneurship,” he said.
He emphasized that the programme is equipping young people with critical skills to compete in the digital economy.
“Nyamira County Youth Empowerment Programme is equipping tens of our youth with critical skills to enable them access digital jobs in Kenya and beyond our borders,” Nyaribo noted, adding that the graduates are part of a growing list of beneficiaries from the county’s ICT Hub.
“Plans of moving the Hubs to the subcounties are ongoing; we must make education and training universally accessible,” he said.
He also revealed the creation of the Nyamira Digital Academy, aimed at helping participants secure jobs, alongside investments in vocational training and partnerships with the KCB Foundation to sponsor students.
Graduates expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the skills gained would help them both locally and internationally.
To support their transition into online work, each graduate received airtime bundles worth 5,000 shillings.
The event was attended by senior county officials including County Secretary Dr. Jack Magara, CECMs Stephen Oboso (Finance), Emilly Ongaga (Education and ICT), Dr. Peris Mong’are (Agriculture), Bernard Maina (Lands), Alice Manoti (Environment, Water), and Dr. John Matiang’i (Youth, Sports, Gender), among others. Rigoma MCA and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Nyambega Gisesa also graced the occasion.
