Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has commissioned a new Information Communication Technology laboratory at Chebulbul Primary School in Kaptagat, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The initiative marks a major step in empowering rural learners through digital education.

The project was constructed and equipped by the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation in collaboration with the Standard Chartered Foundation, with the aim of bridging the digital gap among pupils in underserved communities.
Chebulbul Primary School, located just 100 meters from the Global Sports training camp where Kipchoge has trained for the past 24 years, holds a special place in his heart.
Speaking at the commissioning, Kipchoge emphasized his vision of creating opportunities for children from humble backgrounds.
“I am very happy that the school has allowed my foundation to chip in and team up with the Standard Chartered Foundation. I built the classrooms and they equipped them,” he said.
“This is the next generation that we are shaping, and I believe the law of nature requires us to contribute and touch a human being in whichever way possible.”
Former head teacher Rael Biwot hailed the project as transformative, noting that the Competency-Based Curriculum is largely digital.
“The ICT Lab will go a long way in helping the learners especially because most lessons require a teacher and pupil to use a digital device. This is a real win for the learner,” she remarked.
Regina Mukiri, Head of Community Impact and Engagement at Standard Chartered Kenya, explained that the partnership began in 2024 and is part of impact projects funded by the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.
“Digital skills are our priority because the world is increasingly becoming tech-savvy. Therefore, access to technology is a tool of empowerment that connects young people to the world,” she said.
The ICT lab will provide internet access and modern learning facilities, ensuring that pupils in rural areas are not left behind in the digital age.
