The government has extended digital cable infrastructure coverage to about 46 per cent of the country as part of ongoing efforts to enhance access to technology and digital opportunities for young people.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony at Borangi Secondary School, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Stephen Isaboke, said the government is also rolling out Jitume Digital Hubs in every ward across the country.

According to the PS, the hubs will provide free Wi-Fi and computers to enable young people to access digital services and acquire technology skills.
“Every ward has to have a hub with Wi-Fi and computers where teachers will educate local children on how to use digital information,” said Isaboke.
He noted that the digital programme is designed to help young people leverage technology for research, education, entrepreneurship and socio-economic development.
“The cable is like a highway and Kenyans should be prepared to use these digital hubs for research, development, education and selling products,” he said.
Isaboke explained that Wi-Fi technology can support connectivity for multiple devices, including computers, mobile phones, CCTV cameras, internet radios and televisions.
“That is what technology and digital systems can do,” he added.
The PS emphasized that digital infrastructure is critical in creating opportunities for learning, innovation and economic empowerment among the youth.
He further revealed plans to extend Wi-Fi and cable connectivity to Borangi Secondary School to enhance learning and strengthen support for the health sector.
During the event, Isaboke also congratulated the school for its strong performance in the KCSE examinations and commended both teachers and students for maintaining discipline despite challenges posed by overcrowded classrooms and dormitories.
