The East African Community (EAC) has officially launched the 14th Armed Forces Command Post Exercise, Ushirikiano Imara, in Nairobi.
This marks a major step toward strengthening regional peace and security cooperation among Partner States.

The multinational exercise, which runs until 28 May 2026, brings together military, police, and civilian personnel from across the region to enhance preparedness, interoperability, and collective response to emerging security challenges.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, the EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Infrastructure, Productive, Social and Political Sectors, Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, said peace, security, and unity remain fundamental pillars for the success and integration of the Community.
He emphasized the need for timely information sharing and stronger regional coordination to address evolving threats such as terrorism, transnational organized crime, and instability in neighboring regions.
“The EAC region continues to face increasingly complex and interconnected threats. These challenges require harmonized operational procedures and practical cooperation among our defence and security institutions,” Malueth noted.
Kenya’s Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, reaffirmed the importance of collective security and regional collaboration in promoting peace and resilience.
“Ushirikiano Imara is not only a milestone in training but also a reflection of our collective vision and shared purpose. Through EAC collaboration and commitment, we can build resilience against threats posed by criminal and terrorist groups such as Al‑Shabaab and Boko Haram. No nation stands alone,” he said.
Major General John Nkoimo, Kenya’s General Officer Commanding Central Command and Exercise Director, highlighted the theme “Enhancing Regional Readiness for Peace, Security and Resilience,” noting that the exercise aims to improve coordination, preparedness, and multinational operational effectiveness among participating forces.
The opening ceremony featured the symbolic handover of the EAC flag, signifying unity and shared commitment to regional stability.
Over the years, the Ushirikiano Imara series has become a practical demonstration of the EAC’s dedication to strengthening command and control systems, joint planning, and multi‑agency collaboration.
