A section of residents in Nyaribari Chache have declared support for Okeng’o Nyambane’s 2027 parliamentary bid, days after elders from the Botondo clan formally endorsed his candidature.

The endorsement, issued during a well-attended Abatondo elders’ gathering, appears to have energized grassroots mobilization, with locals increasingly backing Okeng’o’s leadership push.

The elders cited his track record in community service, accessibility and responsiveness to local challenges as key factors behind their decision.

Speaking during a follow-up community engagement on Tuesday, several residents said the elders’ position reflects broader public sentiment on the ground.

“We trust the elders because they understand the needs of this community. Their endorsement shows that this is the right person to lead us,” said Charles Onchiri.

Philip Maronga, a resident of Mobomea, pointed to Okeng’o’s involvement in social and economic initiatives, particularly support for vulnerable groups.

“We have seen Okeng’o building houses for the homeless, paying hospital bills for the poor and supporting small businesses by putting up sheds for boda boda riders and women traders, while still listening to our concerns. That is the kind of leader we want,” he said.

Local political observers say such endorsements by elders often carry weight in Kisii politics, influencing voter perceptions and shaping early campaign momentum at the grassroots.

With the 2027 race still taking shape, the growing backing from both elders and sections of residents positions Okeng’o among the figures to watch in the Nyaribari Chache contest.
