Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has commended Kenyan police officers serving in Haiti under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission as the country begins winding down its deployment.
Murkomen, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, visited the remaining contingent on April 27, 2026, in Haiti, where they met officers involved in the final phase of the mission’s drawdown.

The Kenyan delegation was received by MSS Contingent Commander Godfrey Otunge and Kenya’s Consul General to Haiti Noor Gabow, alongside other officials.
During the visit, Murkomen was briefed on the mission’s operations, including efforts to stabilise and restore order in Haiti, as well as the ongoing transition to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2793 of 2025.
In his address, the CS praised the officers for their dedication and sacrifice in a challenging international assignment.
He also conveyed a message of goodwill from President William Ruto and reiterated support from Kenyans for the mission.
Inspector General Kanja lauded the officers for maintaining professionalism and discipline, noting that their work had earned Kenya recognition on the global stage.
He urged those returning home to apply the experience gained to improve policing and public service delivery in Kenya.
National Security Advisor Joseph Boinett described the deployment as historic, commending the officers for upholding Kenya’s reputation while contributing to peace and stability abroad.
The drawdown continued later in the day, with 150 officers departing Haiti for Nairobi, marking a significant step toward the conclusion of Kenya’s role in the MSS mission.
Senior officers present included Administration Police Service Director of Operations Jackson Kangani and the Inspector General’s Personal Assistant James Murithi, among others.
