The County Assembly of Nyamira has plunged deeper into political crisis following the dramatic expulsion of ten Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and the suspension of two others.
The move is being described as the most decisive move yet by newly installed Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro to assert control over the troubled House.
The expelled MCAs, all known allies of former Speaker Enock Okero, were accused of gross misconduct and absenteeism after they skipped eight consecutive plenary sittings.
Instead, they participated in the controversial “Bunge Mashinani” sessions, which were parallel sittings held outside the official Assembly chambers.
These sessions, which have been a source of legal and political contention, were previously declared illegal by both the High Court and the Senate.
Among those expelled are Rigoma Ward’s Nyambega Gisesa and Bokeira Ward’s Joel Ombongi, both vocal supporters of Okero.
They are joined by Martha Marwa, Jeliah Nyakang’i, Beatrice Onyancha, Edinah Obara, Janerose Nafula, Elijah Abere, Lydiah Bosire, and Zipporah Matundura.
The Assembly also handed suspensions to Abel Mokaya of Magwagwa Ward and Lameck Sikweya of Itibo Ward, citing similar grounds of absenteeism and defiance of Assembly procedures.

The move comes just weeks after the High Court upheld Okero’s impeachment, paving the way for Nyabaro’s formal assumption of the Speaker’s role.
Since then, Nyabaro has vowed to restore order and discipline in an Assembly that has been mired in factionalism, walkouts, and legal battles for nearly a year.
“This Assembly must return to its constitutional mandate,” Speaker Nyabaro declared during the special sitting.
“We cannot allow rogue behavior to derail service delivery and the trust of the people of Nyamira.”
The expelled MCAs had continued to hold unofficial sittings under the Bunge Mashinani banner, despite multiple warnings and court rulings.
The political implications of the expulsions are significant.
Most of the affected MCAs are closely aligned with Governor Amos Nyaribo, raising concerns that the Assembly’s internal strife is spilling over into broader county governance.
The Senate has previously expressed alarm over the dysfunction in Nyamira, warning that the prolonged impasse was affecting county operations, delaying salaries, and stalling development projects.
There is speculation that the new move may throw the Assembly into further crisis as relates to execution of their mandate in line with the Constitution and House Standing Orders.
Sources hinted to KPC that the expelled MCAs were considering to move to court to reverse the decision, which is as good as terminating their careers before the next general elections.
