The recognition crowns his exceptional leadership during the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.
As Head Coach of Team Kenya, Kirwa steered the national squad to a remarkable fifth-place global finish, securing a total of 11 medals—three gold, four silver, and four bronze.
The award, jointly presented by Betika and the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK), celebrates Kirwa’s strategic brilliance and calm stewardship, which were widely credited for Kenya’s success on the world stage.

“He has consistently demonstrated an ability to bring out the best in our athletes, and this award is a testament to his enduring impact.”
Kirwa received a personalized trophy and a cash prize of Ksh 100,000, a gesture that not only honors his contribution but also underscores the importance of recognizing coaching excellence in Kenyan athletics.
