Fourteen people died Monday morning when a CityLink Aviation aircraft crashed in the Luri area, about 20km southwest of Juba, authorities confirmed.
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) said the Cessna 208 Caravan, registration 5Y-NOK, was traveling from Yei to Juba International Airport when it went down.
There were no survivors.
The aircraft departed Yei at a quarter past nine.
At 09:43 AM, air traffic control lost communication with the plane as it approached Juba.
Shortly after, the aircraft crashed in the Luri area on the outskirts of the capital.
Preliminary reports cite adverse weather and low visibility as likely factors.
An unofficial source earlier told reporters the plane may have struck a mountain before catching fire.
The SSCAA confirmed 13 passengers and one pilot were on board.
Two were Kenyan nationals. The remaining 12 were South Sudanese nationals.
“The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority confirms that an aircraft crash occurred approximately 20km southwest of Juba today,” the SSCAA said in a press release dated 27th April 2026.
An SSCAA response team has been dispatched to the crash site to support emergency and recovery operations.
The Authority extended condolences to the families and relatives of those affected.
The crash site remains secured.
Investigators will examine weather data, flight records, and wreckage to determine the exact cause.
The SSCAA said further updates will be provided as verified information becomes available.
CityLink Aviation Ltd, the operator of the aircraft, has not yet issued a public statement.
